Line of control
The Line of Control (LoC) is a military control line between India and Pakistan controlled parts of the former princely state of Jammu and Kashmir – a line that does not constitute a legally recognized international border but serves as a de facto border.

The line is often protected by heavily pointed wire turns; a kind of fence put up by the Indian army.
The LOC is the 740-kilometer border or line of military control that separates Kashmir occupied by POK or Pakistan from the state of Jammu and Kashmir in India.
The line is protected by Indian army control posts on the Indian side of the LOC and by Pakistani checkpoints on the Pakistani side of the LOC.
It was originally referred to as the Armistice Line, but was changed to the “Line of Control” upon the signing of the Simla Agreement on July 3, 1972.
The part of the former princely state under Indian rule is recognized as the state of Jammu and Kashmir and Kashmir, and the part controlled by Pakistan is divided into Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan.
